Marta Lotta, why did you choose to compete at Eesti Laul?
First of all, it's a very good showcase for us as artists in Estonia, but also an international audience that allows us to be more visible, increase our fan base and share our music. On top of that, I've been a Eurovision fan since I was a little girl, and to be able to represent our country at Eurovision is a very great honor, and I'd be very happy to represent my country.
What is the meaning of your song “Tantsin Veel”?
For me, this song represents the search for self-confidence in difficult times. It's also for myself, and people can relate to it in everyday life: if you're having a bad day or feeling down, you need to get moving to feel better and be positive, otherwise you'll always feel down. And all this can be found in song, singing, dancing, moving and getting our emotions out.
Why is there a French part in the song, and what does “liter de confiance” mean?
I wanted to have this “liter of confidence” idea with the fact that the price of petrol goes up all the time so from there, why not have our self-confidence go up too?! It's an expression I found funny even though I know it doesn't mean much! Getting back to French, quite simply I think the French language is glamorous, I love the way French sounds and I love the language. I used to live in France, but people always react negatively when I tell them I used to live in Paris. They say “Yes, but Paris isn't France”.
I know I don't have a great accent in this part, but I'm still proud of myself for writing these lyrics myself, without using Google Traduction! And this confidence I'm talking about reminds me a lot of France, because for me, France makes me think directly of music.
Have you listened to the other songs competing in the Eesti Laul?
Yes, and there's a lot I like! What I really like is that there's a wide variety of musical genres. Speaking of Tommy Cash, it's really cool to have an artist like him performing against other Estonians, and I love his advertising campaign. But whatever happens, it doesn't mean he'll win... it'll be me!
How does it feel to have been chosen by the Estonian public for the wild card?
It's great that the Estonians liked it, and it gives me a lot of confidence going into the final. And to know that there'll be even more people there for the final, I like this role of outsider!
What are your musical inspirations?
I really like what Kendrick Lamar, Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars are doing.
What are your Top 3 Eurovision songs?
I'm a big fan of Think About Things in 2020, Teresa & Maria last year and Eighties Coming Back the Estonian entry in 2003.
